Day of Educator Well Being – Creating Space for your selfcare
This is going to be two parts in one post. My before and after thoughts of my upcoming event with the Stanislaus County Office of Education. I have been invited to participate in this wonderful event honoring teachers on Saturday May 18th.
“It’s a free special event dedicated to honoring the invaluable contributions of educators and emphasizing the importance of mental health in the education sector. The event will feature workshops, activities and resources aimed at empowering teachers to prioritize their wellbeing.”
When I was first asked to participate in this event, I had zero hesitation. I couldn’t get the word ‘yes’ out fast enough. I barely knew what it was going to be about but I knew I wanted to be a part of it. Anytime I hear mental health awareness and self-care, it’s like you’re speaking my love language. Then once I realized it was a way to honor and celebrate teachers, administrators and support staff I got even more excited. You see, if you didn’t know, being a teacher is no easy feat (especially in today's day and age). As a teacher, you aren’t just dealing with the kids, you’re dealing with parents, strict rules and regulations to follow, hard situations and so much more. Teacher's plates are beyond full. The expectations put on teachers these days is astronomical. Now, please note, this is just my opinion but nowadays, I feel like a lot of parents rely on teachers to parent their children instead of parenting them on their own. I feel like teachers get the hammer down on them from some parents, simply from doing their job. Being a Teacher isn’t just to teach a class any longer. They’ve become sounding boards, therapists, advocates, caregivers and more.
As I started to do some research around mental health and teacher’s, I was shocked at what I was reading. It actually started to make me really sad. The statistics are alarming. Take a look for yourself.
The pressure and expectations put on Teacher's these days is heavy. I cannot wait to shower them with love and appreciation tomorrow at this very special event. I will let you know how it goes. I'm expecting it to be a very soulful day, filled with amazing vibes.

Oh what a beautiful morning it was! Teachers, Educators, Administrators and Support Staff came to enjoy a morning of wellbeing and selfcare. They were able to make their own flower bouquets, make essential oil bracelets, design their intention words, paint rocks, make totes and SO much more. It was a morning of serenity and fulfillment. My cup is definitely full.
We were able to get some amazing notes of hope written by the participants and can't wait to take them up to the Forest Hill Bridge to spread love and hope to those who need it most. We were able to share our wellness wheel AND feelings wheel to help keep our mental health and selfcare in check. Raising awareness around our mental health and wellbeing. Which is also a great activity for the students if I do say so myself. Both help identify what you need in this moment and where you are excelling. Two of my personal faves for sure. We had a fun spin the wheel giveaway items because, who doesn't love Tchotchke's right?! In addition to showering our amazing, strong, resilient educators; there were also many networking opportunities as well. We were able to meet other organizations with similar goals and drive as we do here at Home Team Creations. It felt good to be surrounded by others that just want to help our community and provide support and resources to those in need.
Our Teachers are heroes without capes, they don't just teach our children, they are truly there for them on many levels. It's a constant, tireless profession that doesn't get enough recognition. To all my teacher friends out there, I see you!
I'm so very grateful for the opportunity I had to participate in the Stanislaus County of Educators Wellbeing Day. I look forward to doing it again. My soul is happy and I'm beyond thankful.
