Tracy woman takes personal ordeal as inspiration for blood drive

As we prepared for the first annual ITP awareness blood drive, my mom thought she would reach out to a couple news outlets to see if they’d like to cover the story. Imagine my amazement when a reporter from the Tracy Press wanted to interview me regarding my blood disease and blood drive. I thought he would just feature the blood drive and try to help us get people to come in.

When the article was released I couldn't even wrap my head around it. He wrote such a good story! He told MY story (but way better than I ever could)! I still can’t believe that he took interest in me. Who am I? Why me? What the heck?!

While I haven’t lived in Tracy for 5 years, I was raised there (30 years), my parents still live there and I still work there. It’s my hometown. I was honored to have an article written and published.

More than anything I wanted to bring awareness to my community. Awareness about my blood disease that was found by chance and awareness about the shortage of blood donors. They really do go hand in hand. He did a great job getting both messages across.
